FAQ's
- Does New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG) sell and install HVAC equipment?
No.
NJNG is your natural gas supplier. We do not sell or install HVAC equipment or washers or dryers, but we do provide rebates and financing for energy-efficiency upgrades. When you participate in The SAVEGREEN Project® we can supply a list of qualified, independent contractors. However, NJNG does not endorse or recommend any particular contractor.
- Can NJNG provide an estimate?
No.
NJNG does not sell or install HVAC equipment or washers or dryers, therefore we can’t provide an estimate. However, NJNG does offer a Quick Home Energy Checkup to help you learn how to save energy and money in your home. Use your detailed report to get estimates from qualified contractors.
- Do I have to use one of the qualified independent contractors to take advantage of the rebates and incentives?
If you participate in Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® (HPwES), you must work with a participating HPwES contractor. Use the Find an Independent Contractor Look Up Tool above to search for a contractor offering HPwES services or call today and we’ll help you get started.
If you are replacing single or multiple pieces of equipment you can use any contractor for rebates. You or your contractor can apply for rebates. If you would like to use the On-Bill Repayment Program (OBRP), use the Find an Independent Contractor Look Up Tool above to search for a contractor offering the OBRP. No matter what program you participate in, we recommend you get multiple estimates.
- How can I qualify for NJNG’s On-Bill Repayment Program (OBRP) and how long does the approval process take?
The OBRP is available to NJNG heat customers. You will need to complete an application before any work is started. If you are a current NJNG customer, we will check your payment history. You cannot have more than two late (30+ days) payments in the previous 12-months. If you don’t have 12 months of payment history with NJNG you’ll need to supply a letter of credit from your previous utility. If you’re in the process of converting to natural gas heat, you’re eligible to apply for the OBRP.
Typically, you’ll be notified within five business days. It may take a few more days if we need additional information.
- If I own a rental property can I use the OBRP 0% APR financing to pay for the energy-efficiency upgrades at that property?
If you’re installing multiple pieces of equipment you can take advantage of NJNG’s OBRP to finance up to $15,000 at 0% APR for your home OR rental property, however the natural gas account must be in the homeowner’s name.
The HPwES program is only available to owner-occupied homes and not available for rental properties.
- How do I know if I qualify for the income qualify enhanced benefits programs?
1) I/We/You live within a low- or moderate-income census tract

- What if my project started before July 1st?
